Song of the Sea
The songs of the sea can bring
What words could never tell,
Nor ever a pen recount
The mysteries in each rising swell.
It is as though each created thing
Were endowed with a tongue with which to sing
The praises of the eternal Lord
In the universe of the missing chord.
From the back of the fish to the sky
Without a flaw and without a sigh
Each atom its particular part,
Eloquent and pure, with all its heart
In harmony and in ecstacy
Encircles its life with a melody.
O Thou clear and manifest Light
Thou who sets the stars to flight
At the dawn of Thy celestial decree...
We render praise and thanks to Thee.
Thou who walks in every age
In human form upon the earth,
The recreation of a stage
Of fresher life and nobler birth.
Teach us to sing Thy celestial songs;
Bind together our hearts and pardon our wrongs;
Give us the vision to emulate Thee,
United as waves of the boundless sea.
